Two Affordable Developments Now Open at 237 and 253 Race Street in San Jose

Two complimentary affordable developments are now completed on adjacent sites at 237 and 253 Race Street in San Jose’s Sunol-Midtown neighborhood. The project entitled Belliarmo Place opened doors to 116 affordable units last fall. Meanwhile, the project entitled Alvarado Park opened 90 senior affordable housing units just last week. Both buildings were developed by the Santa Clara Housing Authority with The John Stewart Company stepping in as the property managers.

The affordable house development planned at 967 Mission Street in San Francisco has cleared up the details on its upcoming timeline for construction. Property managers at the John Stewart Company have confirmed a start date of sometime in late October. The project, first reported on by SF YIMBY in 2023, has been much anticipated for the last few years, with broad community support.

Construction officially started yesterday morning on the first apartment complex in the ambitious Potrero Power Station masterplan on San Francisco’s formerly industrial waterfront. The first structure to rise will be an affordable workforce housing complex named the Sophie Maxwell Building, with expectations of over seven hundred units to rise with it during the first phase of development. The nine-story complex will replace the Kapwa Gardens between 5th and 6th Street with nearly a hundred homes.
