Construction Financing Secured for Samuel Merritt University Expansion

Samuel Merritt University has secured a $139 million bond for constructing their proposed ten-story central campus at 525 12th Street in Downtown Oakland, Alameda County. Along with the bond, SMU is investing $120 million. The over quarter billion dollar investment keeps SMU on schedule for groundbreaking later this year, having received approval in November. Strada is the project developer.

In October, we again broke the news about a proposed residential tower with renderings for the Bay Area, this time to be the tallest building in Oakland. Pre-construction progress was noted across the region, with Core Spaces making a second bid for 2128 Oxford Street to be the tallest project in Berkeley, new renderings for the OMA-designed 730 Stanyan Street, and Alexandria plans to redevelop the BART-adjacent Tanforan Mall in San Bruno. Meanwhile, construction progress was documented for the San Jose City College, 1510 Webster Street, and 2359 Harrison Street.

For the last twelve days of the year, SF YIMBY will look back on each month to reflect on the biggest stories we covered. In September, we saw the official groundbreaking of 30 Van Ness, a tour of the Bristol on Yerba Buena Island, and the topping out of new labs in San Mateo County. SFYIMBY Year in Review: August 2022

For the last twelve days of the year, SF YIMBY will look back on each month to reflect on the biggest stories we covered. August was a particularly busy month, starting with the approval of Transbay Block 4. Demolition permits were filed for Oakland’s potential tallest tower, and new renderings were found for various projects across the Bay Area, including the reimagined Tishman Speyer proposal for 655 4th Street in SoMa. In Oakland, construction reached halfway for 1900 Broadway. In Santa Clara, Related secured two-thirds of a billion dollars to start construction on a 700-unit apartment tower in Tasman East.
