Construction Underway for Aggie Square Development, Sacramento
April 1st: A recent site visit by YIMBY has captured the construction progress for Aggie Square, an innovation hub rising in the UC Davis Sacramento campus. The project will create a new dense hub on campus for life sciences, education, student housing, and parking. Wexford Science & Technology and GMH Capital Partners are joint developers.
Construction Update for California Tower in Sacramento
April 3rd: Construction is moving forward on California Tower, as documented by a recent site visit by YIMBY for the planned 14-story medical facility rising in the UC Davis’s Sacramento campus. The project is expected to cost over $3.7 billion to add hundreds of new inpatient beds in a new seismically-updated facility. McCarthy Building Companies is the general contractor.
Facade Installation Starts for DGS Resources Building in Sacramento
April 4th: Facade installation has started for the historic Resources Building at 1416 9th Street in Downtown Sacramento. The 17-story building constructed for the California Department of General Services sixty years ago, once the tallest building in Sacramento, is being remodeled with upgraded facilities and a new glassy facade.
City Approves 2136 San Pablo Avenue, Southwest Berkeley
April 15th: The City of Berkeley has approved plans for a six-story residential building at 2136 San Pablo Avenue in Southwest Berkeley, Alameda County. The project could bring over a hundred homes to a low-rise crop of structures next to George Florence Park. Irvine-based Allrise Capital is the property owner and applicant.
Preliminary Plans for Affordable Housing at 125 East 12th Street, Oakland
April 19th: Preliminary plans have been filed for an eight-story affordable housing project at 125 East 12th Street in Merritt, Oakland. The proposal would rise next to East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation’s approved plans for affordable housing at 121 East 12th Street. Satellite Affordable Housing Associates is leading the project and working with co-developer Eastlake United for Justice.
Facade Installation Starts for 555 Bryant Street in SoMa, San Francisco
April 22nd: Construction is moving quickly for the dense residential complex rising at 555 Bryant Street in SoMa, San Francisco. A recent site visit by YIMBY shows concrete has reached the 11th story, and crews have started facade installation. Strada Investment Group is the project developer, and Swinerton is the general contractor.
SF Supervisors Vote Today on $115M Loan for Transbay Block 2 East
April 23rd: The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote later today to provide a $115.8 million construction loan for affordable housing at Transbay Block 2 East. The proposal is expected to rise 17 stories tall and bring 184 below-market-rate rental apartments to 200 Folsom Street in the heart of the densely-developed Transbay neighborhood. Mercy Housing is the project sponsor.
23-Story Tower for 1965 Market Street, San Francisco
April 24th: New plans have surfaced for a 23-story residential tower at 1965 Market Street in San Francisco close to the Castro. The tower is a remarkable increase from the same developer’s initial plans to add two hundred rental apartments to the historic property at the corner of Market Street and Duboce Avenue. Keller Grover Properties is the project applicant.
Significantly Reduced Plans for Sac Bee Headquarters Proposed, Sacramento
April 25th: Dramatically reduced plans have been filed by Shopoff Realty Investments to replace the former Sacramento Bee headquarters at 2100 Q Street in Midtown Sacramento. The developer is now seeking to bring 122 townhomes and single-family homes, aiming to bring less than a quarter of the housing compared with the initial five-story proposal. The application uses Senate Bill 330 to expedite approval.
Mission Rock Opens Waterfront Park, Starts Leasing for Verde, San Francisco
April 26th: While the San Francisco Giants are settling into the new baseball season, they have been welcoming another crowd just across McCovey Cove. The team, in partnership with Tishman Speyer and other stakeholders, celebrated the official opening of China Basin Park yesterday morning, two days after announcing that leasing has started for the Studio Gang-designed residential tower, aptly named Verde. Construction is nearly over for the first phase of the city’s mixed-use Mission Rock master plan.

Good news except for the severe reduction in the number of units in the new 2100 “Q” street design.
This article states no new apartments are being added: only townhomes and SFH.
This is a disappointment in a city with such a severe lack of housing. Still, the 122 units are better than none.
