The Julia Morgan-designed YWCA Building at 1515 Webster Street in Downtown Oakland recently changed ownership for $22.5 million. The 109-year-old Renaissance revival building is now owned by a current tenant and public charter school, with plans to bring teach housing to the top two floors. Oakland-based Highbridge Equity Partners had previously owned the property.
Zoning permits have been filed for a new eight-story residential infill at 2138 Kittredge Street in Downtown Berkeley, Alameda County. The project will replace a 120-year-old brick building with over five dozen apartments, including a few affordable units, directly across from California Theatre. The Austin Group is responsible for the application.
Preliminary permits have been filed for a 20-story apartment complex at 2425 Durant Avenue in Southside, Berkeley. The potential 200-foot tower is entering a growing list of high-density projects that aims to reshape the skyline surrounding UC Berkeley with more housing to satiate the city’s outsized demand for housing. The project is being led by local architect Yes Duffy at Yes Duffy Architects.
Preliminary plans have been floated for new affordable housing at 3073 International Boulevard in Fruitvale, Oakland. The zoning worksheet application shows interest in merging three parcels to create a multi-family project directly across from where SAHA and the Native American Health Center have started construction at 3050 International Boulevard. The Unity Council is responsible for the application.
Preliminary permits have been filed for a new affordable housing development at 2500 76th Avenue in Eastmont, Oakland. The project will replace a large vacant parcel with senior housing, close to the Eastmont Town Center. Alameda County-based Eden Housing is the project sponsor.
