Largest Affordable Housing Project in Berkeley Opens at 2012 Berkeley Way

The largest affordable housing project in Berkeley opened its doors last week with an official ceremony for the Berkeley Way Apartments at 2012 Berkeley Way. The event launched the opening of low-income and permanent supportive units and the Hope Center, which now provides supportive services for residents and the community in the downtown urban center, with BART and AC Transit both nearby. The project is a joint venture with BRIDGE Housing and BFHP.

New renderings have been published for the 25-story mixed-use building at 2190 Shattuck Avenue in Downtown Berkeley, Alameda County. The project will create some low-slung commercial structures with 326 apartments and street-level retail. Landmark Properties is sponsoring the project for property owner PGIM Real Estate.

Studio KDA has revealed to YIMBY new detailed plans for an eight-story mixed-use apartment building at 2480 Bancroft Way in Southside, Berkeley. The infill will produce 28 new homes across from the UC Berkeley Campus and near Telegraph Avenue. The team has submitted a pre-application to secure a streamlined approval process with Senate Bill 330.

The pre-application has been filed for a five-story senior affordable housing project at 1708 Harmon Street in South Berkeley, Alameda County. The proposal will create 80 units just a few blocks from the Ashby BART Station. The Community Housing Development Organization of North Richmond is responsible for the application.

The City of Oakland has published updated environmental documents for a seven-story mixed-use development at 3050 International Boulevard in Fruitvale, Oakland. The project will reshape a 0.75-acre vacant lot with 76 units of affordable housing and dedicated space for the Native American Health Center. Satellite Affordable Housing Associates is responsible for the application.

Construction has started for a five-story mixed-use addition at 100 Callan Street in Old San Leandro, Alameda County. Once complete, the structure will contain nearly two hundred homes, a Sprouts grocery store, Union Bank, and other retail space. The project is a joint venture with the Martin Group, Sansome Pacific Properties, and STARS REI.

oWow has officially broken ground on what will become the tallest timber building on the West Coast. The developer held a ceremony yesterday afternoon at 1510 Webster Street in Downtown Oakland, with members of the project team, the community, and city officials in attendance. The project will rise 19 floors with over two hundred homes. Speaking with YIMBY, oWow President Andrew Ball shared the company’s ambitious timeline for completion in 16 months.

Construction has topped out for phase two of IDENTITY Logan Park, an eight-story residential infill at 2370 Shattuck Avenue in Downtown Berkeley, Alameda County. While crews work to build the 69-unit structure, leasing has started for the 135 units in phase one, including the replacement Chase Bank at the corner of Shattuck and Durant Avenue. The Austin Group and CA Ventures are the project developers.
