The Palo Alto Architectural Review Board is scheduled to meet this morning to discuss plans to convert a vacant movie theater into office space within the Palo Alto Square office campus. The property, at 3000 El Camino Real, had been occupied by the CinéArts at Palo Alto Square Theater until it permanently shuttered in 2021. Hudson Pacific Properties is the project client.

The formal application has been filed for the Creekside Hotel and Residences at 3400 El Camino Real in Palo Alto, Santa Clara County. The filing comes less than six months after the builder’s remedy-assisted preliminary application was submitted, following state law to streamline the approval process for projects with a certain amount of affordable housing. Formal permits have been submitted for Encore Estates, the builder’s remedy-assisted plans to add hundreds of homes and an 81-room hotel at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, Santa Clara County. Alongside new housing, the project will add a clubhouse, gatehouse, and additional parking to the historic winery and concert venue. San Jose State University has opened the hotel-to-dorm conversion of Spartan Village on The Paseo, a former hotel located at 184 South Market Street in Downtown San Jose. The 13-story building was transformed from being the southern tower in the Signia by Hilton hotel complex, formerly The Fairmont San Jose, into a nearly 700-bed student housing addition just west of the SJSU campus. The over $100 million project was led by Throckmorton Partners.

The project was one of several high-profile projects within the Westbank masterplan developed in collaboration with Urban Community. This shift marks the fourth iteration for the vacant freeway-side parcel and the second time Urban Community proposed housing.
