Demolition permits have been filed to clear four buildings to make way for the 16-story mixed-use project at 2359 Harrison Street in Northgate Waverly, Oakland. Just two blocks from Oakland’s current tallest building at One Kaiser Plaza, 2359 Harrison is part of a slow contemporary expansion of Oakland’s central business district. The project will add 330 new dwelling units with some affordable units to the East Bay housing market.

The Oakland Planning Commission is scheduled tomorrow to review plans for a new 400-student charter high school at 1045 Derby Avenue in Fruitvale, Oakland. The applicant is Education for Change Public Schools, a charter management organization operating six separate schools with over three thousand students in Fruitvale and Elmhurst. Construction will replace the former campus for Epic Charter middle school, which operated between 2014 and 2018 before city orders led to an abrupt closure.

A new rendering has been revealed for a five-story mixed-use building at 7521 MacArthur Boulevard in Eastmont, Oakland. To be called Macarthur & 76th Avenue Apartments, the development would add 11 units to the East Bay’s housing market. Devi Dutta Architecture is managing the design and project.

Development permits have been filed for a proposed residential development at 6225 Harmon Avenue in Oakland’s Seminary neighborhood. The development will build on a vacant parcel to create three new two-story dwelling units. Sunnyvale-based Phan Designs is responsible for architecture and design.

The project would produce a three-story building while retaining an existing mixed-use building on the parcel. Shan Masuda Design is listed as the applicant and architect, while Oakland-based Ahmed and Ishmael are responsible for the development operating through 3210 Harrison LLC.

Design Review Held For Brooklyn Basin Marina Expansion Project In Oakland

Oakland Planning Commission held a design review meeting discussing the Brooklyn Basin Marina Expansion Project in Oakland. The project is a proposed revision to the Brooklyn Basin Project (formerly known as Oak to 9th Street Project). The proposal includes the addition of approximately 10 acres of water surface area to accommodate the proposed marina expansion. Signature Development Group of Oakland and Beijing-based Zarsion Holdings Group are the project developers.

Future Remains Uncertain for the Oakland A’s $12 Billion Howard Terminal Development

The Oakland City Council voted to approve a financial term sheet for Howard Terminal, a mixed-use development with housing, offices, and a new baseball stadium proposed by the Oakland A’s with an estimated $12 billion price tag. However, A’s president David Kaval has repeatedly signaled that yesterday’s approval could spell the end of the team’s future in Oakland because the term sheet approved is not what the team wanted. While Mayor Libby Schaaf is hopeful about the project’s future, Kaval was noncommittal about if the team would continue to negotiate. As it stands, the development is proceeding on thin ice.
