Before receiving approval, Kava Massih Architects shared a revised facade plan, replacing grey columns with gold-painted steel. A preliminary permit application has been filed for a new five-story apartment complex at 4655 Steele Street in Oakland’s Redwood Heights neighborhood. The property was occupied by the temporarily closed Oakland Public School Diagnostic Center and is owned by the Oakland Unified School District. If built, the site would be transformed with over four dozen affordable workforce homes, retail, and community space.
The Berkeley City Council has approved plans for the eight-story apartment complex at 1598 University Avenue in Central Berkeley, Alameda County. The proposal is one of nine high-density projects by the same developer, NX Ventures, that could bring nearly two thousand homes across the city. Trachtenberg Architects is the project architect.
