The City of Cupertino has approved plans for The Rise, a massive mixed-use proposal for thousands of homes, retail, offices, and parking garages on the former Vallco Mall property close to Apple Park. The green-lit project is a modified version revealed in December of last year, with a new towerless design, a remarkable shift from the previous plan. Sand Hill Property Company is the project developer.
The Draft Environmental Impact Report has been published for the Seely Avenue mixed-use project in North San Jose, Santa Clara County, marking a significant step toward approval. The project will redevelop a 22-acre plot of undeveloped land with over a thousand residential units, including apartments, townhomes, and affordable housing. The San Francisco Symphony is looking to reconstruct its existing concert hall with a new interior designed by Gehry Partners, one of the best modern architects of concert halls. New permits have been filed for the project, and the city has published a new historic resource review on the Davies Symphony Hall in the Civic Center. The review concludes that, given its young age, “the building is not yet eligible for listing” as a historic building in the national or state registers.

A new funding milestone has been announced for Freedom West 2.0, a master plan to right the wrongs of 20th-century urban redevelopment in San Francisco’s Fillmore District. The $27 million secured to date comes a month after a new state bill has created a new pathway to finance the project. The development team includes MacFarlane Partners and Avanath Capital Management.
