Deep Dive Into Caltrain’s San Francisco Railyards Redevelopment

Preliminary plans have been submitted for the potential redevelopment of the Caltrain San Francisco Railyards at 4th and King Street in SoMa, San Francisco. The trove of documents filed earlier this week shows a few variants for transforming the 18.6-acre property into a high-density extension of the city’s urban environment, with the tallest tower potentially reaching 850 feet. The plan is a joint venture with Prologis and Caltrain.

The Berkeley Zoning Adjustments Board is scheduled to review plans tomorrow evening about a mixed-use proposal for 2276 Shattuck Avenue in Downtown Berkeley, Alameda County. The proposal looks to adaptively reuse the Morse Block with an additional 15 floors. Laksh Lakireddy of Vindium Real Estate is listed as the property owner, filing through Pasand Courtyard LLC.

The Oakland Planning Department has approved plans for a narrow mixed-use infill at 6518 San Pablo Avenue in North Oakland, Alameda County. The proposal looks to add ten apartments behind a street-facing storefront. Design Manou is the project architect and applicant, filing through Farmy Zero LLC.

The Sunnyvale Planning Commission is scheduled to review plans next Monday for a potential eight-story apartment complex at 1215 Bordeaux Drive in Sunnyvale’s Moffett Park neighborhood. The proposal seeks to replace a former Google-occupied property with more than 200 apartments. The Texas-based real estate firm, Beam Reach, is listed as the project applicant.

Preliminary permits have been filed for an eight-story apartment complex at 2820 South El Camino Real in San Mateo, San Mateo County. The proposal looks to build an office-looking apartment complex on a vacant property across from the Hillsdale Caltrain Station and near the Hillsdale Mall. Millbrae-based LF George Properties Corp. is responsible for the application as the property owner.

Brutalist Building at 536 Mission Street Deemed Eligible For Historic Designation, San Francisco

The newly published historic review evaluation has determined that 536 Mission Street is eligible for historic designation as an example of Late Modernist and Brutalist architecture. The structure was built in 1979 for Golden Gate University in SoMa, San Francisco. The evaluation was published ahead of plans to replace the GGU campus with the city’s fifth- or sixth-tallest skyscraper.
