Westbank and Urban Community have submitted new plans to convert Downtown San Jose’s iconic Bank of Italy tower into housing. The adaptive reuse of the office tower would create well over a hundred apartments across most of the 13-story building. The filing comes as the region struggles with record-high office vacancy rates.
Preliminary plans have been filed for a new eight-story mixed-use infill at 1581 University Avenue in Central Berkeley, Alameda County. The project will replace two commercial buildings and a surface parking lot with over a hundred homes and retail. Trachtenberg Architects is responsible for the design.
New permits have been submitted seeking the approval of bringing affordable housing at 51 9th Street in Downtown Oakland. The project proposal includes the construction of a seven-story building offering residential units at affordable rates, along with residential amenities, and a commercial kitchen. The project site is located adjacent to the Lake Merritt BART Station.
Updated preliminary permits have been filed for 2720 San Pablo Avenue in Southwest Berkeley. The new plans have increased the unit count while shrinking the building height from eight to seven stories. NX Ventures is responsible for the application.
MANU Studios has submitted an updated application for the 11-story mixed-use proposal at 101 Delmas Avenue in San Jose. The filing reveals newer renderings since coverage from June of last year and introduces the Builder’s Remedy provision to expedite the approval process. If built, the project will bring 80 new homes on a small lot close to Diridon Station and Downtown San Jose.
