Major Office-to-Residential Conversion Planned for CityView Plaza San Jose

In a major pivot, developer Jay Paul Co. has decided to convert a large portion of the ongoing CityView Plaza project from office to residential. The site, at the northeast corner of Almaden Boulevard and Park Avenue in Downtown San Jose, will transform an existing four-office building campus into 320 units, rebooting construction on the project which paused last year due to poor market conditions.

New site development permits have been submitted for work to begin on a residential project proposed for development at 535 East Santa Clara Street in Naglee Park, San Jose. The project proposal includes the development of a new six-story mixed-use complex offering spaces for residential, commercial and student housing uses. The project site is currently developed with a shuttered restaurant, slated for demolition. The project site is a parcel spanning an area of 0.436 acres. The project site is located on the Northwest corner of East Santa Clara Street and North 12th Street.

The draft environmental study has been published for the eye-catching 41-story office/hotel tower and a replacement for Fire Station No. 13 at 447 Battery Street and 530 Sansome Street in San Francisco’s Financial District. The proposal shows optimism from the developer that the demand for high-end office space will return.
