Recent activity shows that development persists for an eight-story mixed-use infill at 744 Harrison Street in SoMa, San Francisco. The project will bring a mix of hotel and residential use on top of a ground-level restaurant. However, this persistence comes in the form of a permit approval extension. The development was originally approved in 2018. An application to extend construction entitlements for an additional three years was approved Wednesday. Leon Lee & Associates are responsible for the development as the property owner.

Number 51: Infinity 1 at 338 Spear Street, SoMa, San Francisco

The fifty-first tallest structure in the Bay Area is Infinity 1 at 338 Spear Street, SoMa, San Francisco. The 423-foot tall tower opened in 2008 as one of the distinguishing symbols for the development south of Market Street, especially given its prominent position beside the Bay Bridge. Its undulating dark cyan curtain-wall facade reflects modernist architecture’s evolution in the new millennium, facing pressure to reject traditional ornamentation and the boxed rigidity of the 20th-century modernist design. Tishman Speyer was the developer for the construction and remained as the property owner.

Staff Recommends Approval for 2424 Webster Street, Northgate-Waverly Oakland

The Oakland City Planning Commission is scheduled to review plans for a twelve-story mixed-use office tower at 2424 Webster Street, Oakland. City documents show that the staff is expected to recommend project approval with conditions. Signature Development Group is behind the application.

Preliminary planning documents have been submitted to the city for significant mixed-use development at 1325 East Julian Street in the Five Wounds Urban Village of San Jose. Named Via De Camila, the proposal is in the beginning stages, but early documents suggest between seven to eleven buildings with as many as 1,300 residential units. ROYGBIV Real Estate Development is responsible for the project.

New building permits have been filed for the affordable housing plan at 240 Van Ness Avenue in the Civic Center, San Francisco. The address is across from City Hall at the corner of Grove Street and Van Ness. Once complete, it will add 109 units and ground-level retail for the highly-trafficked street corner. Mercy Housing is the project developer.

Facebook and Signature Development Group have announced that they have submitted newly detailed planning documents for their proposed mixed-use district dubbed Willow Village in Menlo Park, San Mateo County. The proposal will cover nearly 60 acres with a mixture of housing, office space, retail, and public parks. Two phases of construction will yield over 3.3 million square feet of built area. OMA, one of the most influential architecture firms still active, is responsible for the design.

New building permits have been filed for constructing a six-story mixed-use building at 2750 19th Street, to be known as the Fitzgerald, in the Mission District, San Francisco. The project will bring sixty-three residential units and 10,560 square feet of light industrial use. Align Real Estate is responsible for the development.

There’s a new project afoot. SFYIMBY plans to highlight the 52 tallest skyscrapers planned and completed in San Francisco as of January 1st, 2021. This list will include towers nearly a century old and projects that haven’t even broken ground. We start with 52nd place, Studio Gang’s MIRA at 160 Folsom Street in SoMa, San Francisco. The 422-foot tower opened its doors last year, but even before opening, the building has garnered significant attention with a twisting facade responding to the city’s historic architectural vernacular.
