A preliminary permit application has been filed for a new five-story apartment complex at 4655 Steele Street in Oakland’s Redwood Heights neighborhood. The property was occupied by the temporarily closed Oakland Public School Diagnostic Center and is owned by the Oakland Unified School District. If built, the site would be transformed with over four dozen affordable workforce homes, retail, and community space.
Renderings have been published for an office and restaurant structure at 500 Brannan Street in SoMa, San Francisco. The site is currently occupied by Marlowe, a popular 13-year-old American bistro. Canopy Project Management is sponsoring the project for an anonymous property owner listed as 590 4th Street LLC.
Amidst a struggling commercial real estate market, Mission Rock has proven a bright spot for San Francisco. Phase one of construction is wrapping up now in Mission Bay, which Tishman Speyer credited to Visa’s decision to move their global headquarters into Building G, and the team announced five new retail tenants secured last month. Now, the podium office space in The Canyon has been leased to Capgemini America, the US arm of the France-based global technology company.
The Berkeley City Council has approved plans for the eight-story apartment complex at 1598 University Avenue in Central Berkeley, Alameda County. The proposal is one of nine high-density projects by the same developer, NX Ventures, that could bring nearly two thousand homes across the city. Trachtenberg Architects is the project architect.
Construction is wrapping up for the latest life science development at 1091 Industrial Road in San Carlos, San Mateo County. The project is part of a new hub for the biotech and medical research market on the Peninsula. Premia Capital and Prince Street Partners were jointly responsible for the development before selling it to the Florida State Board of Administration in 2021 for $177 million.
