Bay Area Development Activity To Expect in 2022

People across the Bay Area have been told to expect an impressive onslaught of construction to start or finish during this new year. From Treasure Island to Mission Bay, Diridon Station to Downtown Oakland, crews are planning to break ground on skyscrapers and apartments, open a new light-rail subway, and start work on the Silicon Valley BART extension. The following is a list of the highlights we at SFYIMBY hope to share with our readers between now and 2023.

New Renderings Revealed, EIR Published for 2055 Chestnut Street, Marina District, San Francisco

Updated designs have been published for a residential proposal at 2055 Chestnut Street in San Francisco’s Marina District. The proposal will replace a 0.66-acre property occupied by surface parking and a single-story structure with rental housing, retail spaces, and a grocery store. The San Francisco-based Prado Group, an active real estate investment firm and developer, is responsible for the development.

Detailed new renderings have been published for UCSF’s proposed new hospital addition to the Parnassus Heights Campus. The new renderings with design by Herzog & de Meuron come with the Draft Environmental Impact Report’s publication and the start of a public comment period. University of California, San Francisco is the project sponsor.

Number One: The Salesforce Tower in SoMa, San Francisco

Rising 1,070 feet tall, the Salesforce Tower is the tallest building in the Bay Area, the 17th tallest in the United States, and the 91st tallest in the world. The distinctive glass-wrapped tower has been designed by one of the preeminent architects in the world, Pelli Clarke Pelli. Unsurprisingly, it remains a divisive contribution to the San Francisco skyline.

Updated Plans Published for 1900 Diamond Street In Diamond Heights, San Francisco

Updated plans have been filed, showing continued work behind the scenes for the proposed residential development at 1900 Diamond Street, or 5367 Diamond Heights Boulevard in San Francisco’s Diamond Heights neighborhood. The project team is aiming to build 24 residential units across the vacant 0.8-acres of land. Solomon Cordwell Buenz is responsible for the design.

Redwood-Inspired Design for 395 3rd Street, SoMa, San Francisco

Beautifully detailed new renderings have been published for the high-rise proposal at 395 3rd Street in SoMa, San Francisco. The mixed-use tower is poised to replace a surface parking lot in the city with retail, public open space, and over five hundred apartments. Henning Larsen Architects, an internationally renowned Danish architecture firm, is responsible for the design.

Rendering Revealed for 2530 18th Street, Mission District, San Francisco

New renderings have been filed for a 100% affordable housing development at 2530 18th Street in San Francisco’s Mission District neighborhood. The eight-story project will expand the Homeless Prenatal Program facilities and create 73 new homes. HPP is the property owner, represented by the Equity Community Builders. Mercy Housing is the developer.

Hotel At 711 Post Street In Lower Nob Hill May Operate As A Shelter

Permits have been filed seeking the approval of operating a hotel as a semi-congregational shelter. The property, Ansonia Hotel, is located at 711 Post Street in Lower Nob Hill, San Francisco. Core Hotels, LLC is the property owner. San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing is the project applicant.

Permits Filed For 23 Alvarado Street In Mission District, San Francisco

The project proposes to construct a new four-story building with two additional family-sized housing units. Winder Gibson Architects is responsible for the design concepts.
