Governor Gavin Newsom sanctioned a $12 billion bill to tackle the housing affordability crisis. On July 19, 2021, in Sonoma County, Newsom highlighted his California Comeback Plan’s investments to propel the plans to construct affordable housing, helping tens of thousands of affected people in California.
New building permits have been filed for three townhouse structures to be built at 1834 Worthington Circle as part of Santa Clara’s Agrihood showpiece development. The three buildings will contribute 36 new dwelling units as part of the multi-structure 361-unit project with an acre and a half of agricultural land. The development is a private-public partnership with the City of Santa Clara and Core Companies.
Scaffolding has been erected for the partial demolition at 30 Van Ness Avenue, where a future mixed-use tower with affordable housing is expected to become the 24th tallest building in the Bay Area planned or built. The 540-foot tower will create 333 condominiums and nearly a quarter of a million square feet of commercial office area in San Francisco’s Civic Center neighborhood by City Hall. Lendlease is the project developer.
The Oakland City Council voted to approve a financial term sheet for Howard Terminal, a mixed-use development with housing, offices, and a new baseball stadium proposed by the Oakland A’s with an estimated $12 billion price tag. However, A’s president David Kaval has repeatedly signaled that yesterday’s approval could spell the end of the team’s future in Oakland because the term sheet approved is not what the team wanted. While Mayor Libby Schaaf is hopeful about the project’s future, Kaval was noncommittal about if the team would continue to negotiate. As it stands, the development is proceeding on thin ice.
A proposal study session was held for reviewing a residential project at 1178 Sonora Court in Sunnyvale. The project proposal enlists the redevelopment of an industrial property site into an apartment complex. Plans call for the demolition of an existing structure and the construction of new apartment units. MP Sonora Court Associates is the project applicant and owner. Studio T Square is managing the design concepts and construction.
