UC Regents Approve People’s Park Development in Southside, Berkeley

The UC Board of Regents has approved plans for UC Berkeley construct a $312 million mixed-housing project to replace the historically significant People’s Park in Southside, Berkeley. The L-shaped complex would take up less than half of the existing park to create housing for 1,113 university students and roughly a hundred units for extremely low income, unhoused, or formerly unhoused people. 1.7 acres of the 2.8-acre park would become landscaped open space.

The project proposal includes the development of a five-story mixed-use building with residences and restaurant/retail space. Urban Capital LLC is the project applicant. Williams & Paddon Architects & Planners Is responsible for the design concepts and construction.

The San Ramon planning commission is scheduled to hear plans about demolishing the Golden Skate roller rink. The project would create 47 townhome units across 3.5 acres of land within the Crow Canyon Specific Plan. However, the application is significantly smaller than the 2017-era proposal for a 227-unit apartment building. Hassan Sharifi, the owner of Golden Skate, is responsible for the development through Windflower Fields LLC as the property owner.

Meeting Scheduled for 425 Broadway, San Francisco

The San Francisco Planning Commission is scheduled to review plans for a mixed-use development at 425 Broadway, on the border of the Financial District and North Beach in San Francisco. The project would replace a large parking garage with 41 dwelling units, retail, and office space. San Jose-based Yeh’s Development is responsible for the project through Montgomery Place LLC.

Permits Filed For Mixed-Use At 201 El Camino Real, Menlo Park

Permits have been filed seeking the approval of a new mixed-use project proposed at 201 El Camino Real in Menlo Park. The project proposal includes the construction of a three-story mixed-use building with two levels of on-site parking. Plans call for architectural control and environmental review for the demolition of an existing commercial building and multi-family residential building. EID Architects is managing the design concepts and construction.

The project would replace the Nob Hill Theatre with housing and medical facilities. John Lum Architecture is responsible for the proposal, which includes preserving the theater facade and signage.
