Construction is moving swiftly for the revamped KQED headquarters. The long-time home for the iconic Bay Area-based media station at 2601 Mariposa Street, Mission District, is redefining itself to accommodate for their significant growth since purchasing the lot in 1991. While their personality and care for broadcasts have endeared them to the public, their new design invites the public inside. EHDD Architects, also known for the Exploratorium at Pier 15, are responsible for the design.

Construction Update for 137-Unit 830 Eddy Street, Fillmore District, San Francisco

Construction is quickly rising at 830 Eddy Street, a new residential high-rise in the Fillmore District. The thirteen-story structure is a development by BUILD, one of the most prolific developers in the city. Once complete, it will provide 137 new houses to a quickly-developing neighborhood.

Construction is progressing at a steady pace for 1001 Van Ness Avenue, a thirteen-story mixed-use tower in the Fillmore District. The building will be a substantial contribution to one of the hottest thoroughfare markets in the city, the Hub area, from which it is less than a mile away. The block-wide structure will be opened up as an assisted senior living center with ground-floor retail. The design is by Handel Architects.

Office Allocation Permits Filed for Industrial Site Redevelopment at Potrero Power Plant, San Francisco

Permits have been filed for the 600,000 square foot office portion of Potrero Power Plant, a 29-acre redevelopment in Dogpatch, San Francisco. Redeveloping abandoned industrial plots has become quite the trend internationally. London has the Battersea Power Station. New York City has the Domino Sugar Factory, and San Francisco has several along the eastern waterfront, including this one, India Basin, and, arguably, Mission Rock. The developers of Potrero Power Plant have recently applied for its office allocation permits, indicating preparation for phase one of six. Associate Capital’s California Barrel Company LLC is in charge of the 5.3 million square foot project.

New Siliconix Data Center filed at 2201 Laurelwood Road, Santa Clara

Permits have been filed for a new data center at 2201 Laurelwood Road in an industrial neighborhood of Santa Clara. The plan calls for replacing an existing 199,920 square-foot structure with two new centers spanning over 500,000 square feet. Vishay Siliconix Inc is listed as responsible for the development, dubbed Edgecore.

New Building Coming to 228 Vicksburg Street, Noe Valley, San Francisco

New building permits have been filed for a four-unit residential building at 228 Vicksburg Street in Noe Valley, San Francisco. Demolition permits have followed suit, describing the existing building as a one-story single-family lot. The 48 bus is roughly a block away from the address. EE Weiss Architects will be responsible for the design.

Luxury Private School, Avenues: World School, Proposes Campus in San Jose

Avenues: World School is best known as the school where each student will get a MacBook and an iPad. Since it started in New York City in 2012 with admission fees for K-12 rivaling college, it has expanded to Brazil and Shenzhen. Now, the high-end private school is planning a new campus in the heart of Silicon Valley. Renderings reveal the proposed 547,459 square-foot campus at 550 Meridian Avenue, San Jose.

Demolition Permits Filed for 820 Bryant Street, SoMa, San Francisco

Demolition permits have been filed for a single-story McDonalds at 820 Bryant Street, adjacent to the city’s Hall of Justice in SoMa, San Francisco. The permits were filed by the city’s own Public Works department. This news comes over a year after media outlets like the SF Examiner reported on the city’s purchase of the vacant retro single-story commercial building for $16 million.
