Oxford Capital Group Buys Five Bay Area Hotels

The Chicago-based Oxford Capital Group has an extensive portfolio of hotels across the country, including San Francisco’s ornate Sir Francis Drake Hotel. Now, the firm has announced they are increasing their presence in the Bay to nine properties following the purchase of three hotels in San Francisco, one in Palo Alto, and another in Los Gatos. Related CA, Holliday Development, To Develop Housing at El Cerrito Plaza BART Station

BART has announced that they have picked two developers to form a joint venture for 780 new residences around the El Cerrito Plaza BART Station, with 49% units as affordable, and a public library. Related California and Holliday Development were chosen. The joint venture now must negotiate the terms of agreement with BART to start the two-to-three-year process of producing a development concept.

The proposal will include demolition of a single-family residential building at 228 Clara Street, and building on top a vacant lot at 224 Clara Street to produce a five-story apartment building with nine units. The project will also include six on-site parking spaces. Stanley Saitowitz | Natoma Architects Inc. is managing the project, and Design Everest is serving as the structural engineer.

This resurrects hope for developing the vacant lot by AMG & Associates. The firm had pursued a smaller project in March 2010, though it withdrew in 2016. New permits describe a 197-unit mixed-use affordable housing development to qualify for Senate Bill 35 (SB35) to expedite approval.
