Funding Secured for 600 South First Street, Downtown San Jose

The developers for 600 South First Street have secured enough funding for the development of a mixed-use tower in Downtown San Jose. Recent reporting by George Avalos of the Bay Area News Group confirms Scape, the international company focused on student and market-rate housing, has been loaned as much as $182 million by Madison Realty Capital. The proposal is expecting to create 336 new homes.

Development permits have been filed seeking the approval of a large-scale residential project proposed at 7 South Linden Avenue in South San Francisco. The project proposal includes the construction of two residential buildings offering a total of 700+ homes. Essex Property Trust and Infill Land Partners LLC are the project developers. The San Mateo-based residential developer (NYSE: ESS) paid $33.5 million for the property, including a 25,000-square-foot warehouse zoned for mixed-industrial use within the city’s downtown area. Sandhill Land Co. was the seller.

The seventh tallest tower in the Bay Area built or planned is 345 California Street, a mixed-use skyscraper in the heart of San Francisco’s Financial District. The building opened in 1986, adding office space to the commercial market, and the Mandarin Oriental hotel once occupied the top eleven floors. When completed, it was the third tallest in the Bay Area with a rooftop height of 725 feet.

A new residential project has been proposed at 1915 Berryman Street in Berkeley. The project proposal includes the development of four-story townhomes on a site that presently houses a three-story two-unit home that was built 132 years ago. Plans call for the demolition of the single-family home on the site. The home was wasn’t deemed worthy of landmark status in May 2020. Gunkel Architecture is responsible for the design concepts.
