Permits have been filed and approved for the preliminary review of residential buildings at 300 Checkers Drive, San Jose. The project proposal includes the acquisition and rehabilitation of forty-nine buildings containing 700 units. The residential buildings stand on the northeast corner of Checkers Drive and McKee Road and span over approximately 0.67 acres. Community Preservation Partners, LLC, is managing the project.
The developer Urban Catalyst has purchased the lots required to build a 184-unit residential project at 486-498 West San Carlos Street in Downtown West, San Jose, and inside the Diridon Station Area Plan. The project will provide new housing right near the existing transit station, of which nine will be sold as affordable for very low-income residents.
Development permits have been submitted to construct three two-unit buildings on parcels at 1043-1045 Clayton Street in Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco. The total area of three lots is 6,750 square feet, with each lot measuring 2,250 square feet. The building facades are proposed to rise to a height of 40 feet. Two basement levels and three floors are also planned. Schaub Ly Architects is managing the design and construction of this project.
New building permits have been approved for the construction of a new health center at 3800 Florin Road in the Parkway neighborhood in Sacramento. The project will create a new home for the Sacramento Native American Health Center, a community-owned center run by Native Americans for the general public.

This list will include towers nearly a century old and projects that haven’t even broken ground. We start with 52nd place, Studio Gang’s MIRA at 160 Folsom Street in SoMa, San Francisco. The 422-foot tower opened its doors last year, but even before opening, the building has garnered significant attention with a twisting facade responding to the city’s historic architectural vernacular.
